Not less than 200 youths, operating under the umbrella of the Ozoro Youth Assembly, on Monday, January 12, 2026, staged a peaceful protest in Ozoro, Delta State, to draw attention to the deteriorating condition of internal roads and prolonged lack of electricity in the community.
The protest commenced at Allah Square and proceeded through major streets in the town, including the BEDC Office and the Ozoro Express Road, resulting in a temporary disruption of traffic along the busy corridor.
Carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, the demonstrators expressed concern over what they described as years of neglect by relevant authorities.
They said the poor internal road infrastructure and unstable power supply have continued to undermine economic activities and negatively affect the quality of life of residents.
Although the demonstration remained peaceful, the blockage of the Ozoro Express Road led to traffic congestion for a period.
Security operatives, including the Area Commander and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), were deployed to the scene to monitor the situation and urged the youths to remain calm.
Addressing the protesters, the President General of Ozoro, Mr. Beckley Ashafa, commended their orderly conduct and assured them that their grievances would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.
“I commend the youths for their maturity and peaceful conduct. Your concerns have been noted, and we will take the necessary steps to engage the relevant agencies to address the issues of bad roads and inadequate electricity supply in our community,” Ashafa said.
Following the intervention of the Area Commander, the protesters vacated the express road, allowing traffic to resume. No arrests were made, and no injuries or property damage were reported.
The protesters called on the government and relevant agencies to urgently address the issues raised in order to prevent further demonstrations.
