In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, former presidential candidate Peter Obi has announced that the coalition he is part of has formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform.
The coalition named Distinguished Senator David Mark as the National Chairman and H.E. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola as the National Secretary of the party.
Obi, in a statement issued on Tuesday, emphasized the seriousness of the coalition’s decision, describing it as the result of “deep reflection on where we are as a country and what must be done to move forward.”
“Our commitment is to sacrifice and work together towards the 2027 General Elections, ensuring that Nigeria gets a competent, capable, and compassionate leadership that will prioritise the nation’s future by putting the welfare of Nigerians first,” Obi said.
Highlighting the importance of unity in tackling Nigeria’s challenges, Obi asserted that meaningful change cannot be achieved by a single group. “No one group can change Nigeria alone. To dismantle the structures that keep our people in poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls – even when those bridges are uneasy,” he noted.
With the coalition’s formal alignment with the ADC, the stage is being set for what could be a major realignment in Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of 2027. Obi closed his statement with a message of hope: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
