Police, robbers exchange gunfire in Ughelli, two robbers killed, one escape with bullet wounds

The Police in ‘A’ Division Ughelli on Sunday gundown two armed robbery suspects in a gun duel which lasted for some minutes.
One of the suspects escaped with bullet wounds after the police foiled their attempt to rob bank customers who were leaving the bank ATM at about 3.00pm on Sunday.
When contacted, the Delta State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed to our reporter  that the police at ‘A’ Division, Ughelli received  a distress call that a gang of three armed robbers were operating closed to one new generation banks along Market road Ughelli and they swung into action immediately.
DSP Onovwakpoyeya disclosed further that on getting to the scene of the operation, the robbers entered their car and zoomed off but the police gave them a hot chase that later resulted in gun crossfire along Isoko road within the main town that led to the killing of two of the three robbers as the third escaped with varies degree of injuries.
The source at the police station who spoke on condition of anonymity said two locally made pistol, many lives catrige, one expended catrige and one Golf 3 Red car with registration number AJ 220 EFR were recovered.
“We received a disress call from the public that a gang of three armed robbers were operating within the Ughelli main town and we swung into action immediately. On sighting the police they (robbers) opened fire on the police and we (police) immediately returned them with more superior power and two were gundown and one escaped with bullet wounds”.
It would be recalled that on Wednesday last week a gang of three armed robbers which specialise in trailing unspected POS operators customers trailed a POS operator from one of the new generation banks in Ughelli metropolis to his house in Uduere street, shut him severally and two others, left one dead and carted away his money.
In a similar development, a five-man gang of armed robbers terrorising Ighwrekan and its environs in Ughelli south LGA were caught after robbing a POS operator at Ighwrekan community and two of them burnt while others escaped as youths gave them hot chase.
Earlier, the Police and  Vigilantes vowed to make Ughelli North and it’s environs unhabitable for arms robbers, kidnappers and other related crime perpetrators to dwell.
