A Nigerian actress and songwriter, Tiwa Savage, has reacted to the ongoing call to stop rape and punish rapists in Nigeria. For the past few weeks, the issue of rape has taken centre stage in Nigeria.
Many young promising Nigerian girls and even little under-age girl-children have been reportedly molested by aged men in different parts of the country. There is no day there won’t be reports of rape in one part of the country.
This has become a great challenge in Nigeria. Women groups and social crusaders have been on their toes campaigning against the menace. Some have called for different grades of punishment for convicted rapists in Nigeria.
In her reaction, Tiwa Savage said she has listened and heard all that have been said about rape and the kind of punishment people suggested for rape. She said she stands strong with victims of sexual abuse.
She suggested two things. She said victims of rape should speak out and speak the truth and also those found guilty to have raped people should be punished to the full extent of the law.
