In the wake of the unfolding controversy surrounding the suspension and reinstatement of the Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, the Palace of the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku has released a carefully worded statement addressing the issue.
Speaking through the Palace Secretary, Prince Ifeakanachukwu Emordi, the Palace confirmed that numerous individuals from within and outside Ogwashi-Uku have reached out to His Majesty, Obi (Dr) Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo II, urging him to intervene in the matter.
In response, the Palace emphasized that the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku remains a strong advocate for justice, equity, and the rule of law, and that while he is willing to mediate a peaceful resolution if officially called upon by the appropriate state authorities, he will not interfere in any ongoing investigations or administrative processes initiated by the Delta State Government.
“His Majesty has taken note of the weighty allegations involved. The matter must be resolved lawfully so that no individual operates under a cloud of uncertainty,” the statement read.
The Obi, who holds a Doctorate degree and is widely known for his intellectual depth and calm, fatherly disposition, has long been recognized as a voice of reason, even in turbulent times.
His leadership has brought dignity and focus to the Ogwashi-Uku traditional institution, and his commitment to fairness, institutional order, and community progress continues to guide the Obi-in-Council’s actions.
The Palace cautioned that while emotions may run high, it is vital that members of the Ogwashi-Uku community exercise restraint, avoid aligning with any individual or faction, and allow the Government’s committee to complete its work.
“The Obi of Ogwashi-Uku will engage with relevant officials to ensure that due process is followed and that justice is served. However, the Palace will not be drawn into the legal or administrative mechanics of the matter,” Prince Emordi added.
A Community Pillar
The Palace also highlighted the strategic importance of the Delta State Polytechnic to Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom and Delta State at large. As one of the key institutions driving education, youth development, and economic activity in the region, the Polytechnic represents a vital pillar of progress.
“We all want stability, credibility, and growth for the Polytechnic. That is why this matter must be handled with care, guided by truth and justice. The Obi remains committed to supporting the institution, as long as the integrity of the system is preserved,” the statement concluded.
With the Rector’s suspension by the Polytechnic’s Governing Council and his reinstatement by the Higher Education Commissioner still generating public debate, the Palace’s calm and measured stance offers a principled middle ground — one that prioritizes process, unity, and the long-term health of the institution.
