A former security guard identified as John Danjuma has been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command for allegedly butchering his former employer, Boma Amaomu-Jumbo, to death with a cutlass at her residence at Dandison close, off Amaechi Drive, in the GRA, Port Harcourt on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.
The deceased was a former Director of Admin in UPTH, and the suspect was earlier arrested and is standing trial for allegedly stealing $10,000 from her. He denied the accusation but was granted bail, and the case was adjourned to a later date for continuation of hearing.
In a video that has gone viral on social media, the suspect is seen being interrogated by policemen at the State Criminal and Investigation Department in Port Harcourt. He confessed to sneaking into his former boss’s residence in the wee hours of the morning ahead of the next court hearing of the case, which was fixed for Friday, May 12, 2023.
After gaining access to the building, he hid himself and waited for the right moment to attack. He then reached for a machete he found in the kitchen, and when it started raining, he went into one of the rooms and butchered his former boss to death. After committing the crime, he stole some of her jewelry and attempted to escape.
However, he was caught by neighbors who raised the alarm upon seeing bloodstains all over his body as he was leaving the building. During interrogation, Danjuma claimed that the deceased accused him of stealing the $10,000, which led to their issues.
The Rivers State Police Command spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and the arrest of Danjuma. She said the matter was still being investigated and that the suspect would be charged to court for the heinous crime.
