Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has congratulated renowned elder statesman and Pan–Niger Delta leader, Chief Godwin Ogbetuo, on the occasion of his 96th birthday, describing him as a symbol of principled leadership, moral courage, and unwavering commitment to good governance.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Senator Dafinone said Chief Ogbetuo’s 96th birthday marks not only a personal milestone but also a celebration of a lifetime dedicated to service, justice, and the advancement of democratic values in Delta State, the Niger Delta, and Nigeria as a whole.
The senator noted that Chief Ogbetuo played a pivotal role at the onset of the current democratic dispensation, particularly during his tenure as Chairman of the Delta State Elders and Leaders Forum.
According to him, Ogbetuo, alongside other respected leaders and in close collaboration with the late Pa Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, provided critical guidance that helped strengthen democratic culture and promote responsible governance in the state.
“Chief Ogbetuo stands tall as a respected Pan–Niger Delta leader and a steadfast advocate of accountable leadership,” Dafinone said, adding that his interventions during defining moments in Delta State’s political history were marked by wisdom, balance, and moral authority.
He further praised the nonagenarian for his continued relevance and courage at 96, describing him as a consistent and fearless voice against corruption and bad governance.
Dafinone said Chief Ogbetuo’s willingness to speak truth to power has earned him respect across generations and positioned him as a moral compass for leaders and citizens alike.
