Senator Ede Dafinone has extended warm congratulations to Olorogun Professor Joseph Abugu, SAN, on his emergence as the new President of the Urhobo Renaissance Society (URS), a prominent socio-cultural organization dedicated to the unity and advancement of the Urhobo people.
In a congratulatory statement released on Monday, Senator Dafinone described Professor Abugu’s election as timely and significant, especially at a critical period in the collective quest for renewal and progress within the Urhobo nation. He hailed the new president’s deep-rooted commitment to Urhobo values and acknowledged his notable contributions to academic and cultural discourse.
“The URS, guided by its motto ‘Egba R’Okugbe’ (Unity is Strength), remains a rallying point for distinguished Urhobo sons and daughters around the world,” Senator Dafinone stated. “Professor Abugu’s leadership is expected to bring renewed energy and vision to the Society’s mission.”
Senator Dafinone also expressed gratitude to the outgoing President, Professor Hope Eghagha, praising his “pioneering leadership and tireless dedication” which, he noted, has elevated the URS to its current respected standing. “His efforts have laid a firm foundation for continued growth and advancement,” the senator said.
In addition to congratulating the new executive committee members sworn in to serve alongside Professor Abugu, Senator Dafinone voiced confidence in the team’s capacity to uphold and further the Society’s noble ideals.
“On behalf of the good people of Delta Central Senatorial District, I extend my best wishes for a successful and impactful tenure. May Professor Abugu’s leadership inspire greater unity and drive meaningful progress for the Urhobo nation,” he concluded.
The election of Professor Abugu marks a new chapter for the Urhobo Renaissance Society as it continues to promote cultural preservation, intellectual engagement, and strategic development for Urhobo people globally.
