The National President of the Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDHR), Comrade Dr. Prince Kehinde Taiga, has declared that the blame for Nigeria’s widespread underdevelopment should no longer be placed on the Federal Government, insisting that state governors are the real obstacles to progress.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Emerald News, the human rights advocate said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration has consistently issued larger and more frequent allocations to states through FAAC since the removal of fuel subsidy.
According to him, what states have received within two years has surpassed what many previous administrations received in four years.
Dr. Taiga noted that despite the surge in federal inflows, many states remain stagnant due to mismanagement and corruption at the state level.
He stressed that if governors properly utilized even 60 percent of FAAC allocations and internally generated revenue (IGR), Nigeria’s development landscape would be dramatically different.
He added that the governors, not the Federal Government, bear the responsibility for the decay seen in infrastructure, education, and social welfare across the nation.
“The federal government has played its part. It is the governors who are failing their people,” he said, urging state leaders to embrace transparency and prioritize development.
