A 54-year-old man identified as Sandor Cs. has been jailed and given a heavy fine, after he deliberately chopped off his own legs just to guarantee a £2.4 million insurance payout.
According to reports, the man allegedly received financial advice telling him returns are better on insurance policies than savings accounts.
To get such a huge amount of money, the man who is a resident of the Hungarian village of Nyircsaszari allegedly climbed onto the tracks so a train would run over both of his legs.
This led to both his legs being amputated from the knee down.
Since the occurrence occurred, the man has been utilizing prosthetic appendages and remained wheelchair-bound from that point forward.
Report has it that after the occurrence, his wife applied for the payouts however the insurance agencies would not pay, expressing that they suspect the man purposefully caused the injury for himself.
Because of the strict local privacy laws, the defendant was found guilty of intentionally lying down in front of a train so he could pocket the cash in 2014.
After the matter was taken to court, Cs. insisted he was innocent.
Narrating how it all happened, the man revealed that he stepped on a shard of glass which resulted in him losing his balance and falling in front of the train that was just leaving the station.
After being found guilty, the man received a two-year suspended prison sentence and an order to pay £4,725 in legal costs.
Blikk reported that Cs said;
“I find the ruling very peculiar, naturally it isn’t what I expected, I am disappointed.
“I need to see this through to the end because, as is, this is not right, and the court must feel the same way.”
After the incident happened, Sandor who worked in the thermal energy sector and installed boilers at home and abroad, lost his job.
He claimed that the injury and the legal case have bankrupted him.
While revealing that he is currently studying law, Cs revealed that he desires to one day assist with people who have been manhandled by huge organizations.
He also noted that he actually has many insurance claims forthcoming yet they are probably not going to pay up after the court’s decision.
Meanwhile, it was not revealed whether Sandor will be able to appeal the decision.
