Former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, organ trafficking court case has suffered setback as the United Kingdom court, Central Criminal court, popularly known as Old Bailey, states that the former and his wife, Beatrice, plea and trial hearing will no longer hold on Monday as scheduled.
Bring to mind that on 23 July, 2022, Ekweremadu and his wife were charged alongside Dr. Obinna Obeta, on the account of wanting to procure an organ illegally from one David Nwamini for their sickly daughter, Sonia. The case later led to Ekweremadu’s arrest and detention in UK prison.
As reported by Guardian.ng, the court stated that the reason for the adjournment was due to Sonia’s non-availability.
” “the court official didn’t categorically say whether the Ekweremadus’ sickly graduate daughter, Sonia, is now a defendant in the case, for which her parents were arrested. The Old Bailey official said they won’t have to wait for long, as the “case will be re-listed for sometime during the week,” the reporter said.
According to the reporter, the court official said “the judge won’t be hearing the case because ‘there’s no counsel for Sonia.”
