In a heartfelt show of support for a cause close to his heart, the Welfare Director of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Hon. Ese Agbobore, weekend, joined students and faculty staff at the “Say No to Drugs and Yes to Exercise” seminar held at Delta Central Polytechnic, Ughelli.
The event, a youth-focused initiative led by the Ughere Blessed-led UPU Youth Wing, aimed to engage young people and shift their focus from the harmful effects of drug use to more positive, health-driven alternatives for building a better society.
As a staunch advocate for youth welfare, Hon. Agbobore passionately addressed the devastating impact of drug abuse on young lives.
He emphasized that drug addiction not only deteriorates health but also severely curtails the future potential of the youth, preventing them from leading fulfilling and productive lives.
“I was delighted to join the students and faculty staff in their efforts to combat drug abuse within the institution,” Agbobore remarked during the event.
“As someone deeply aware of the consequences of drug abuse, it was an honor to participate in this seminar and take part in such an important discussion.”
While walking among the students, holding placards and distributing informational pamphlets, Agbobore expressed concern for the many young lives impacted by drug abuse.
“Drug abuse not only harms physical and mental health, but it also carries severe social and economic consequences,” he said.
“It can lead addicts to commit serious crimes, engage in violence, and disrupt families, robbing our youth of their potential to contribute positively to society.”
According to Agbobore, the seminar’s primary goal was to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and encourage students to adopt a healthier lifestyle through physical exercise.
Through this campaign, Hon. Agbobore hopes to inspire young people to make positive, life-affirming choices that will not only enhance their personal well-being but also help them create a brighter, more promising future for themselves.
The event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of youth advocacy and the need for collective efforts in combating drug abuse.
The UPU Welfare Director reaffirmed his continued commitment to supporting initiatives that empower the next generation and promote a healthier, more prosperous society.
