Senator Bala Na’Allah has warned that the growing wave of defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) does not automatically guarantee electoral success for the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Na’Allah, a founding member of the APC, said that while the movement of influential politicians into the party may attract public attention, it should not be mistaken for assured victory at the polls.
According to him, many of those defecting to the APC are powerful political figures with strong political structures and followership in their states, which often creates the impression that the party is gaining strength nationwide.
However, he stressed that real success in elections depends on performance and the trust of the people.
“It is not in all cases that defections determine the success of a political party,” Na’Allah said. “The APC still has to work and convince Nigerians that it is positioning the country for a greater future.”
The senator noted that even with increasing registrations and political realignments in favour of the ruling party, dissatisfied citizens would ultimately judge the APC based on its ability to deliver good governance and address their everyday concerns.
Reflecting on the formation of the APC, Na’Allah said the party was created with the intention of changing the political direction of Nigeria at a time when the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was in power.
He added that the founders believed the country was on the wrong trajectory and sought to offer Nigerians a better alternative.
“I am a founding member, and I can say that the APC was formed with clear intentions to correct what we believed was a flawed political direction,” he said.
Na’Allah’s remarks come amid a surge of defections by governors, lawmakers and other high-profile politicians into the APC, a development that has reshaped Nigeria’s political landscape and intensified debate about the likely outcome of the 2027 elections.
He concluded that beyond attracting politicians into its fold, the APC must continue to engage citizens, build public confidence and demonstrate capacity to deliver, insisting that only credible performance can secure the party’s future electoral success.
