Nigeria’s Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has claimed that the northern commercial hub’s political landscape is now “more united than ever” following a wave of recent party realignments.
Speaking during a visit by political committee leaders to the Government House in Kano, Governor Yusuf said the shift reflects unprecedented cooperation among the state’s political actors.
Yusuf has recently led a group of lawmakers and local officials in defecting from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He said the move is aimed at accelerating development and aligning Kano with the federal government.
“Since we joined the APC, we have continued to witness increasing unity across Kano State,” the governor said in a statement issued by his office, adding that even previously divided families are finding common ground.
Governor Yusuf urged political stakeholders and residents who “mean well” for Kano to support closer cooperation with the central government under President Bola Tinubu, asserting that such alignment is necessary to drive progress in the state.
The development follows weeks of national attention on Kano’s political realignment, with senior federal officials welcoming the move and positioning the state as a strategic partner ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
