Pastor William Kumuyi is undoubtedly a holiness preacher among pastors in Nigeria. He has been preaching since he was a student at the University of Lagos. He has grown over the years to be one of the most renowned evangelists worldwide.
He preaches holiness, humility, transparency, honesty, integrity, rapture and accointability in every aspect of life. He is humble to a fault. His language epitomises the holiness he preaches to his congregation.
He has one of the largest Christian gatherings in the world. The headquarters of his church is in Gbagada Lagos where he preaches to his congregation across the globe.
But one thing is special about him. This is where some Nigerian pastors are missing it. I have seen so many people say all manner of things against him. They say he is this, he is that. Most of which are unfounded because they lack the knowledge of the word of God.
There was a young lady called Mercy Benjamin. This lady was busy using the social media to attack Pastor Kumuyi. She alleged that Pastor Kumuyi and Deeper Life destroyed her childhood years arising from the teachings of the Deeper Life General Superintendent.
She called for Pastor Kumuyi to apologise to her for allegedly destroying her childhood days, according to her. She called Kumuyi different names. She said all manner of things against the General Superintendent but not one statement did the man of God make to her in response to her accusations and name callings.
She ranted on the social media for almost a month,  but everyone kept her quiet. Somebody even came out to apologise to Kumuyi on her behalf but nobody from the church responded . That is very instructive. This is where most Nigerian pastors are failing.
A man of God is not a talkative. You don’t talk too much. As far as you know you are clean, you are not guilty of the allegations being raised against you, you  have no obligation to respond to any allegation.
A few months back towards the end of last year, 2020, the Deeper Life High School scandal came up from Akwa Ibom state, South South Nigeria. The issue was the alleged molestation of a child at the school by some students and teachers.
The education secretary at the headquarters of the school spoke the mind of the church management and what the church had in mind to do. But the mother of the child, despite the statement of the education secretary, was making statement to dent the image of Kumuyi.
She said all sort of things against the church and the general superintendent of the Deeper Christian Life Ministry. She alleged that if anything happens to her, Kumuyi and the church should he held responsible.
People were giving her backing against the man of God. She ranted for long , expecting that Kumuyi would come from Lagos to talk to her. Many people were saying Kumuyi should speak out to save the situation but the man of God never bulged. He does not to speak because people want him to speak. He can only speak when God asks him to speak.
Despite the pressure from the people of Nigeria, Pastor Kumuyi did not altar one word to either Nigerians or the world. He knew he wasn’t guilty of the allegations against him by Don Davis mother, so, why wasting his time and money to make statement in an issue that has no direct bearing to him.
He kept his cool despite all the accusations and allegations against him. He knew he was not guilty so, he remained quiet as God may have instructed him.
We understand from here that men of God should not be loquacious, talking too much and defending insignificant and non+existent matters. This is a good virtue that men of God must imbibe in their lives.
This is a virtue that most Nigeria pastors do not possess. The Bible says there is a time to talk and a time to be quiet. When you know you are not guilty, you ignore them. If all pastors imbibe virtue, come of our challenges will be reduced.
