Teachers under the platform of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Ekiti State, are now contributing N500 each to pay a ransom of their kidnapped colleague, Mrs Owoniyi.
It was gathered that Mrs Owoniyi is a teacher in St Pauls Primary School, Ikole Ekiti.
She was kidnapped by gunmen along Ayebode Ekiti road on Sunday. The kidnappers demanded ransom, but the amount was not disclosed.
Sharing the sad news on the WhatsApp platform, “Ikole LG NUT”, the group appealed with all primary school teachers to start paying N500 into the account number of the victim’s husband, Mr Owoniyi Gbenga Marck which was made available for the contribution.
The post reads;
“Please, my people, let us be our brother’s keeper. The kidnappers are threatening the victim to the extent that the kidnappers put the crying agony of the woman’s voice into loudspeaker for sympathisers to hear.
“Mrs Owoniyi is pleading to you and I to deliver her from death. In this wise, NUT has appealed to all primary school teachers to start contributing #500 each.
“My colleagues, I see this as a good gesture to join them contributing the amount and the Lord will reward you in return.
“Try to send this information to as many people and teaching professional groups you can. The kidnappers had given few hours for this. Just to beg them, we’re still negotiating but they switched off this morning.”
