The Honourable Commissioner for Science and Technology, Engr. Mathew Itsekiri on Wednesday, inspected the ICT innovation hub for the training of youths in Delta state.
During the inspection, the commissioner said the centre was part of government’s effort to create job opportunities for youths to be self-reliant and improve the socio-economic development of the state through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT),
According to him, the centre will immediately commence four months free training exercise for 450 youths to become employers of labour.
He said: “The wisdom behind the training of our youths is to create prosperity for all Deltans. It is to change the life of our youths and help them create innovative ideas that if implemented will go along away in changing their way of life.
“The world today is going digital and if anybody must succeed in this digital age, he or she must have at least the foundational knowledge of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). It is very important in this present day. Every part of the job market is getting digitized and our youths must not be left out. This is part of the reason for this training.”
The commissioner said: “No fee is attached for the training, if you meet the requirement the registration is free and it is done online. The centre has been equipped with state of the art facilities for the training. All our resource persons are on ground waiting for the final day of the free online registration so as to commence learning.
He urged Delta youths to take advantage of the growing technology to make vocations for themselves instead of depending or waiting for government to create jobs for them.

The commissioner also urged Delta youths to utilise the centre for the development of the state. The commissioner thanked the governor for identifying with the people through the usage of ICT in the state.
He assured that the youths would take the advantage of the centre to make a vocation for themselves and ensure that the state and the country at large would move to the next level of technology and development. He added that free starter packs will be given at the end of the programme. He urged the youths to visits www.deltastateihub.com to register for the training.
He commended the governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for giving approval for the programme. “We appreciate Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for the ICT programme, Delta youths will definitely key in to this noble agenda to make sure we take our people to the next level.
“We encourage our youths to take advantage of the programme and reduce dependence on government. This is an effort by Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa towards addressing unemployment by making ICT tools available for youths to significantly encourage and promote digital innovation and job creation in the state, “ he said.
