Owa Alero is a hitherto unknown community in Ika North East local government area of Delta state. It is reportedly the country home of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
Within the last few months, the community has received a beautiful facelift that it can now compete with major cities in Nigeria in terms of infrastructure development.
Four giant institutions can be identified within this period in the previously sleepy and agrarian community. Prior to the emergence of Governor Okowa in 2015, Owa Alero was not known among developed communities in the state.
But within the years of Okowa’s administration, it has been beautified and wearing the face of a city. Roads in the community have been built while some dualised. It is now a beauty to behold
Among the notable giant projects in the community are
1. The Teachers Professional Development Centre. This is specially designed for the training of teachers, not only in Delta but any teachers in any state can be drafted to the centre for training
2. Federal Road Safety Training School. This is a centre to be used for training of Road Safety Officials across Nigeria.
3. Faculty of Engineering, University of Delta, Agbor. This project is running at a very fast pace. The governor is very likely going to commission the project within the next few months.
4. Mother and Child Diagnostic Hospital.
All these projects both completed and ongoing are definitely going to change the landscape and architectural appearance of the community.
However, some people in Delta are pissed that the governor has concentrated these heavy development projects in his community at the expense of others. They have given it different interpretations.
