Dr. Michael Nwoko, former Senior Special Assistant on health monitoring to erstwhile Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, has thumbed up for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori over his achievement in the 100 days in office. Oborevwori has continuously received accolades from well-meaning Deltans following his giant strides within the 100 days of his inauguration as governor of Delta state.
Speaking with Emerald News, Dr. Michael Nwoko, popularly known as the Political Oshobe among his fans and admirers, noted that Governor Oborevwori is a visionary and astute leader who has warmed his heart into the minds of Deltans with his sterling achievement within the period under review.
He told this online media that prior to his inauguration on May 29, the governor made promise to the people of the state, noting that he would touch lives of all Deltans and execute projects that would impact on lives of all classes of people in the state.
Dr. Nwoko, who outlined various achievements of the governor within the 100 days of being in office, said the governor has started executing projects and programmes that are aimed at impacting lives and transforming communities across Delta state.
Within the 100 days under review, Dr. Nwoko said the governor has given nod to 22 local government areas to employ over 2000 teaching and non-teaching staff to fill existing vacancies in the local government system. This, he said, has lifted those to be employed out of the unemployment market and will fetch a means of living for them.
With this, he added, crime rate will also reduce as this group of persons will not have opportunity of nursing negative ideas having been occupied with jobs that will take care of their homes and loved ones. He said this is part of the human capital development programme of the Oborevwori administration.
Following the fuel subsidy removal by the federal government, Dr. Nwoko said the governor has allotted N10bn for palliatives for the people of the state. This class of people, according to him, includes civil servants, public servants, the vulnerable people, widows, poor and low income families and the rural dwellers.
This is to boost their living condition seeing the high cost of living which was occasioned by the fuel subsidy removal and the consequent rise in the cost of transportation, foodstuff, services and others which are directly or indirectly linked to petroleum products.
He also noted that the governor has pledged to purchase electrical vehicles which will ease the burden of transportation within the state. He said the purchase of the vehicles and the eventual use for city transport will aid in drastic reduction of transport fares in the state.
Dr. Nwoko told this news medium that the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is the first to have given larger opportunity to youths to serve in the state executive council. He said the governor appointed young persons as commissioners into the state executive council. These youths are coming with fresh idea to add their quota to the development of the state.
As part of palliative programme for Delta state civil servants, the governor has also approved N10,000 package for civil servants which will run from August to October, 2023. This means within the three months, state civil and public servants will receive N10,000 in addition to their usual salaries.
He said the governor also approved a new work schedule for all civil servants between grade level 1 to 14 for a maximum of three days a week while level 15 and above are free to work out modalities suitable for them. This, Dr. Nwoko said, is all aimed at making living easy for them considering the high cost of transportation.
Dr. Nwoko also said as a promise keeper, the governor who promised to pay workers promotion arrears if voted into office, has released funds in excess of N5bn to pay workers promotion arrears in the state.
Speaking further, Dr. Michael Nwoko said the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has concluded plans to speed up the construction of the Ughelli-Asaba dual carriage way. He said the state executive where the governor is the chairman has approved several roads in the state for rehabilitation.
These roads, according to him, cut across the three senatorial districts in the state. Some of these roads are in Ukwuani, Bomadi, Warri South, Uvwie, Aniocha South, Sapele and Okpe local government areas of the state. The rehabilitation of these roads will connect Delta communities to the city centres.
In a similar vein, as a proactive governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has set up a flood management committee to plan ways to avert impending flood whichis predicted to hit parts of the state within the next few weeks. He set up a 14-man flood management committee to oversee the flood management committee.
Dr. Nwoko added that Governor Oborevwori is determined to impact lives of Deltans and leave a lasting legacy behind for future generations. He believes that the governor has a very good mind to work for the good of the state just as he said his programmes do not have political coloration, being governor of all Deltans.
