The crisis rocking People’s Democratic Party PDP in Delta state has deepened to the extent that the two warriors are laying claim to the soul of the party in the state.
David Edevbie has been at loggerheads with Sheriff Oborevwori over the authentic governorship candidate of the PDP in the state.
The primary election was won by Oborevwori on 25 May 2022. But with discrepancies in Oborevwori’s certificates, Edevbie filed suit at the federal high court in Abuja where Justice Taiwo Taiwo ruled in his favour and directed PDP to forward Edevbie’s name to INEC in replacement for Oborevwori.
But Oborevwori not satisfied with the judgement filed a stay of execution and appeal to the Court of Appeal in Abuja. The judgement at the Appeal Court was delivered technically in favour of Oborevwori.
Available reports are revealing that David Edevbie who is dissatisfied with the Appeal Court judgment is approaching the Supreme Court believing that the Appellate court erred in its judgment.
Now, the two parties David Edevbie and Sheriff Oborevwori with their deputies, Nicholas Ossai, a member of the House of Representatives and Monday Onyeme, chairman of Delta board of internal revenue are displaying their posters claiming as candidates of the party in the state.
PDP executives in the state are in support of Sheriff Oborevwori with a group Delta Peoples Vanguard led by Michael Diden, the party Delta south senatorial candidate while Edevbie is being supported by breakaway group Delta Unity Group led by former Speaker of the state house of assembly, Peter Onwusanya.
While waiting the judgement coming from the Supreme Court, the two are set for showdown in the state. However, if the judgement fails to come before ending of September, Delta PDP will not have candidate for the 2023 general elections. This is because INEC will be publishing final list of guber candidates on October 4, 2022.
