The oarsmen started on the flat plains of Warri’s mangrove swamps and kept on tirelessly towards and into the undulating landscape of Ile-Ife, where two greats would met.
Ceaselessly, the drums kept giving and the cantors kept chanting in rhythmic tunes to welcome the Atuwatse III, Olu of Warri, together with Her Highness, Olori Atuwatse III.
Keepers of the palaces gates threw open the locks, an important and awaited guest had arrived the Ile-Ife, the seat of the Ooni, Arole Oodua, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II)
His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III had come to celebrate his brother King on his 7th year coronation anniversary. His Majesty in his reception speech celebrated the Ooni for the revolution he has brought into various aspects of culture and kingdom affairs and eulogised him further for being a positive role model for the youths. Before rounding up his speech, Ogiame prayed for more fruitfulness on Ife and her citizens and thanked the people for their warmth.
While responding, Ooni recalled the first time both met about 6yrs ago, in differing capacities, but mentioned the fervent belief of knowing that they would once day be royal fathers and yes, that culminated for the first time, during Ale Jefun, when an Olu designate who would go on to be crowned Atuwatse III, emerged.
The occasion dazzled with colour and richness of culture from both kingdoms as well as deepening of ancestral ties with renewed commitment to a future of collaborations.
When it was time to bid farewell, His Majesty the Ooni, flanked by the beautiful Oloris that unwaveringly support Kabiyesi in the Affairs of the Kingdom, as well as Olori Atuwatse III, greeted in warm embraces. All boarded as the Red Boat welcomed its captain and again set sail.
