500 Delta Women Empowered Through Renewed Hope Initiative’s Business Support Programme

In a significant step toward enhancing women’s economic empowerment, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), spearheaded by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has empowered 500 women entrepreneurs in Delta State with essential business equipment.

The initiative, in partnership with the Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), is part of a broader nationwide plan to support 18,500 women across all six geopolitical zones of Nigeria.

The empowerment event took place on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the Cenotaph in Asaba, drawing women from various parts of Delta State.

Beneficiaries received practical business tools such as deep freezers, gas cookers with ovens, generators, and grain grinding machines aimed at helping them start or expand small-scale enterprises.

Lady Catherine Onyeme, wife of Delta State’s Deputy Governor, represented Senator Tinubu at the event.

In her remarks, she highlighted the significance of investing in women as a strategy for community development.

“Today, we see what it truly means to empower the heartbeat of our communities—our women,” she said, emphasizing that the initiative not only supports economic independence but also enhances household well-being and food security.

Also present was Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, wife of the Delta State Governor and founder of the You Matter Charity Foundation, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Princess Pat Ajudua.

She underscored the importance of responsible use of the resources provided.

“Empowerment is not charity; it’s capacity building. We’ve laid a foundation for a brighter future,” she stated.

The programme aligns with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those focused on poverty reduction and hunger eradication.

It exemplifies the federal government’s commitment to inclusive economic growth through strategic partnerships and targeted interventions.

Beneficiaries were urged to utilize their new tools effectively, with the aim of building sustainable businesses and serving as drivers of growth within their communities.

The event in Delta State stands as a powerful example of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s ongoing impact—empowering women and transforming lives, one community at a time.
