Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District, has expressed profound sorrow over the death of Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, describing his passing as a monumental loss to the Urhobo nation and the country at large.
Ewhrudjakpo reportedly collapsed on Thursday and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, where he was later confirmed dead. His sudden demise has thrown Bayelsa State and the Urhobo community into deep mourning.
In an official statement issued on Friday, Senator Dafinone said he received the news with “deep shock and profound sadness,” noting that the late deputy governor was a principled politician and a committed public servant who dedicated his life to the service of his people.
“Until his death, Senator Ewhrudjakpo remained a distinguished son of Urhobo who carried himself with dignity, loyalty, and unwavering commitment to the common good,” Dafinone said.
He added: “His contributions to governance, community development, and national cohesion were exceptional. His humility, integrity, and forthrightness set him apart in public service.”
The senator described Ewhrudjakpo’s passing as a void that will be “difficult to fill,” emphasizing the significant imprint he left on both the political landscape and grassroots development initiatives across the Niger Delta.
Dafinone extended his condolences to the Ewhrudjakpo family, the Urhobo Nation, and the government and people of Bayelsa State. He urged the bereaved family to take solace in the late Deputy Governor’s impactful life and enduring legacy.
“As we mourn this painful loss, I pray that God Almighty grants his family the strength and grace to bear the irreparable loss,” he added. “May his memory remain a blessing to all.”
