Owing to the current expanse of the ravaging flood in Nigeria which has taken over 34 states out of 36 states in the country, President Muhammadu Buhari, as reported by Daily Post has given orders to the Minister of Water Resources to lead and coordinate with the Ministeries of Environment and Transportation and also state governments to come up with a comprehensive plan of action to prevent the ravaging flooding in the country.
The plan should be ready and presented to the President in 90days. This was made clear in the President’s directives which was conveyed in a letter signed by Ibrahim Gambari, Buhari’s Chief of Staff.
The information was delivered to reporters on Monday, in Abuja, by Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant, Media and Publicity to president Buhari, in a brief statement. He affirmed that the President receives regular updates about the flooding situation and that he is committed towards addressing the challenges.
Over the weekend, a report by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), stated that 1.5 million children are at risk of dropping out of schools and facing imminent health challenges as a result of the flooding situation which has taken over almost all states in the country.
It is not established if President Buhari’s action was as a result of continuous criticism by Nigerians over the federal government inaction towards the flooding situation.
