Troops of the Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, have successfully rescued Mrs. Amina Abubakar, wife of the late Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, following weeks of intensive search-and-rescue operations after her abduction by bandits.
Mrs. Abubakar was kidnapped alongside her husband several weeks ago in a shocking incident that drew national attention. Major General Rabe Abubakar, a respected senior military officer and former Defence spokesman, later died during the ordeal.
According to the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the rescue was achieved through sustained offensive operations conducted by troops of Operation FASAN YAMMA, who intensified pressure on criminal elements operating in the affected area.
Military authorities disclosed that troops made contact with the bandits at Tunga Village during a coordinated operation aimed at locating and recovering the victim.
As troops advanced on the criminals, the bandits reportedly shot Mrs. Abubakar before abandoning her and fleeing the scene due to the overwhelming military pressure.
Following her rescue, Mrs. Abubakar was immediately evacuated to a military medical facility, where she is currently receiving treatment. Officials said she is responding positively to medical care.
The Armed Forces assured the public that every necessary measure is being taken to support her recovery and provide assistance to her family during this difficult period.
Military authorities also reaffirmed their commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice, noting that troops will continue ongoing operations to track down and neutralise the fleeing bandits.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria remain resolute in their mission to rid affected communities of terrorists and criminal elements, not only in Katsina State but across the nation,” the military said.
The successful rescue underscores the continued efforts of security forces to combat banditry and restore peace in parts of the country affected by insecurity.
Major General Samaila Uba, Director Defence Information, announced the rescue in a statement issued on Monday.
