Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court , Abuja, on Friday afternoon announced May 18 and 26 as the dates for the ruling for bail application of the detained leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
According to POLITICS NIGERIA, out of 15-count charges preferred against the Nigerian separatist leader, eight were struck out. Other count charges will be tried by the court.
Kanu’s defence team led by Mike Ozekhome (SAN) had asked for bail application, which Justice Nyako subsequently fixed for May 2022.
Nnamdi Kanu’s case dragged on for long since he was arrested and moved to Nigeria from Kenya, the east African country. The case has undergone series of adjournment since then. These dates were fixed on Friday, April 8 when he appeared for continuation of hearing.
The incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu is traceable to the unrest in parts of the eastern states of Nigeria. Some persons in the east have said that if the needed peace must be, the separatist leader must be released unconditionally.
