Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has defended the same APC presidential ticket of competence being most important.
The governor’s speech followed criticisms that had greeted the APC presidential ticket of Muslim candidates Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima.
According to an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the governor has maintained that religion should not be the central topic in the lead-up to the presidential election next year.
If you had listened to my lecture today, I was very clear. I said that religion is not the issue now. We have other issues that should be on the front burner today-restructuring, the rotational presidency., President Akeredolu said on Wednesday.
when discussing religion, he said that it should play no part. In such instances, competency, knowledge, and past performance should all come into play.
In his opinion, his stance has nothing to do with the fact that Tinubu will be on the ballot next year. Rather, he pinpoints it on power rotation in Southern Nigeria.
in his lecture, he said, If Obi is elected, that would be fine. If Bola Tinubu is elected, that would be fine. It must come from the south.
He stressed that the power-sharing agreement known as zoning should be respected.
He asserts that since 1999, there is an understanding that we move from north to south, rotate the presidency, and that if today, we have people who want to deploy what I will call manipulation of our people on the religious basis to think you can change it, then we should not accept it.
