Alhaji Ilyasu Usman Salihu, chairman of Rabiu Kwankwaso Global Movement 2023 has reacted to the statement credited to Ibrahim Shekarau, senator representing Kano central where he said Rabiu Kwankwao, presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) betrayed the agreement both had entered.
In a report, Ibrahim Shekarau who defected to the NNPP from the All Progressives Congress in May 2022 accused Kwankwaso of injustice, noting that all agreement had been betrayed by the party’s presidential candidate and his allies.
But Salihu in a response, said Ibrahim Shekarau is very ungrateful just as he outlined series of favours done to him by the party’s presidential candidate as he junkets from one party to the other.
Salihu said: “To us we are not surprised. Does he know what is injustice? In 2003, there was primary election in ANPP which produced a member of the party as candidate but it was overtaken by some vested interest and given to Shekarau. He never complained of injustice to his party.
“In 2007, the same thing happened. In 2019, there were people running for Senate in APC but because of his lopsided interest, he jumped to join Kwankwaso. All the candidates were denied tickets and he was given automatic ticket. No primary election was conducted. He didn’t complain of injustice.
“As a party we tried our best to see how we can bury our differences and bring everybody who can add value to our party. The form to run for Senate was given to him free. It was Kwankwaso who paid for it.
“We are not worried. He is just identifying his true character. People should know that Shekarau has been an ingrate. He has never maintained a status quo. In every party he goes he has problem. He has to jump from APC to PDP, from ANPP to PDP.
“He couldn’t get ticket to return to senate, he ran to NNPP. Kwankwaso sponsored his primaries. He became senatorial candidate of NNPP for Kano central. He was given 14 seats for House of representatives tickets. Now, he is tactically mingling with Atiku of the PDP. He does not know what he is doing in politics. What assurance does he have that Atiku will win the presidency?
“If he joins PDP now, will have the same mandate with people he left in NNPP? All our tickets given to his people we have to collect them back and give to our members. He is a very confused man. Everything he wanted has been given him, his action shows he has vested interest somewhere.
