The proposal for the creation of Anioma State received overwhelming support during the South East constitutional amendment public hearing held in Enugu, as lawmakers, traditional rulers, and stakeholders delivered compelling presentations in favor of the statehood bid.
The hearing, chaired by Distinguished Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, saw a powerful show of solidarity for Anioma State from prominent members of the National Assembly.
Among the attending senators were Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, Senator Osita Izunaso, Senator Victor Umeh, Senator Osita Ngwu, and Senator Patrick Ndubueze, along with other members of the Senate Committee representing the South East zone.

Traditional rulers from Anioma, led by His Royal Majesty Obi Chinwike Charles Anyasi III of Idumuje-Unor, lent significant cultural weight to the occasion. HRM Anyasi III delivered a passionate and articulate submission, emphasizing the historical, administrative, and socio-economic rationale for the creation of Anioma State.
Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko, a key proponent of the Anioma cause, was represented by his Chief of Staff, Dr. Michael Nwoko. The senator’s office reiterated its full commitment to the initiative, calling for national support in actualizing the aspirations of the Anioma people.
Also present were key members of the Anioma State Creation Technical Committee, including Chief Godfrey Odogwu, Dr. Chris Okoba, and Barr. Eugene Uzum. Several Anioma support groups made coordinated submissions, reinforcing the widespread grassroots backing for the proposal.
