The place of the church in the upcoming elections in Nigeria has been more pronounced in recent times as clergymen have decided to step up and show interest in the process.
Rt Reverend Cyril Odutemu the archbishop Province of Bendel and Bishop of Ughelli Diocese (Anglican Communion) addressed the election issues at the Anglican Diocese of Ughelli prayer convocation 2023 and silver jubilee celebration that held on the 4th of January 2023.
While addressing the crowd of believers, Bishop Odutemu said: “Anybody who can deceive the church, will never fulfill any promise to the state.”
He made the statement while receiving the Delta state governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party Olorogun Barr Kenneth Gbagi, after he redeemed his pledge of 10million naira for ongoing church project.
The bishop noted that several politicians who make promises during campaigns do not fulfil them and that is a testament of their character.
He cautioned the thousands of worshippers gathered on choosing wisely when voting in the upcoming elections.
“We said that we will announce to the people, that the Holy Spirit must guide you to vote right. We will not mislead you, God will guide your hearts so that where you put your votes, you will not regret it.
