The Nigerian Army has officially dismissed circulating reports on social media that soldiers were killed and a military patrol vehicle destroyed during clashes in Oso Edda community, located in the Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
In a statement on Wednesday in Abakaliki, Lt. Col. Emmanuel Chielo, Commanding Officer at Nkwagu Military Barracks, described the social media accounts as inaccurate.
He emphasized that no Nigerian Army personnel were killed in the operation and that security forces, including the police, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, are jointly working to stabilise the area.
According to Chielo, the initial encounter involved assailants from the Amasiri clan, triggering a response from security forces.
He acknowledged the complexity of the terrain and reiterated that troops acted with caution to avoid harm to civilians.
The Army also affirmed plans to recover the bodies of civilians reportedly killed during the attacks on the Okporojo part of the community.
Chielo described ongoing concerns about the proliferation of small arms, which he said continue to fuel insecurity in local communities.
He reiterated that restoring peace in the region remains a priority, noting continued collaboration between federal and state security agencies.
