Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta South Senatorial District, Chief Ayiri Emami, says if the July 13 Delta state local government election is conducted in a free and fair atmosphere, chairmanship and councillorship candidates of the party will emerge victorious.
Emami made the declaration in Warri, Delta state when he presented campaign materials to the party’s chairmanship candidates in Warri South, Warri North and Warri South-West LGAs.
He expressed optimism that all the APC chairmanship candidates in the three Warri LGAs will win the election, saying, “If there is any election, our candidates are going to win. Therefore, we must all go out and campaign; if you don’t campaign, nobody will vote for you.
“I understand the fear of some of our supporters that the government doesn’t want to conduct elections but wants to write the results. Be rest assured that if there is any election, I am confident that our candidates will win.”
He urged the government to put everything in place to ensure a free and fair election.
“It is instances like this that make us yearn for local government autonomy, to ensure local government elections are not controlled by the state government.
“If the states are advocating for state police and are also overseeing the state Independent Electoral Commission, they must ensure there is a free and fair election in all local governments in the state.”
The chairmanship candidates expressed their appreciation to Emami, and assured party members as well as supporters that victory would be secured as they would go out into the creeks and riverine areas to campaign.
Those Emami supported are Prince Francis Yonwuren, Warri South, Chief Samson Omamuli, Warri North, and Mr Ebieto Collins, Warri South-West.
