All 17 Southern governors comprising South South, South East and South West have converged in Delta Government House.
The governors are from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross Rivers, Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Ebonyi and Abia states.
It is not clear whether all of them are present at the meeting that is ongoing but a publication by Delta Government House shows faces of all the 17 Southern governors.
In a publication by the Delta state government, the photographs of all the governors are represented and it’s tagged “Southern Governors Forum.” The composition of the meeting does not indicate party affiliation but a decision for the future of the Southern states.
It is believed that the 17 governors from the 17 Southern states of the country have mooted the idea of establishing a Southern Governors Forum as the Northern Governors Forum.
Although the objective of the meeting is yet unknown, it may not be unconnected with the security and political challenge in the nation.
It is perhaps aimed at fostering a common front to unite the Southern states and their people to speak with one voice in terms of security and political re-alignment.
The meeting is holding presently at the Delta Government House, Asaba with Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, chairman of South South Governors Forum as the host.
