Former Chairman of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abia State chapter, Senator Emma Nwaka, has announced his resignation from the party.
This was contained in a letter he addressed to the Chairman of his Ward 5, Oguduasa, Isuikwuato Local Government Area, Chief Innocent Nwagba.
According to the letter dated June 12, 2024 but made public on Thursday, August 29, the Second Republic Senator said his exit was based on personal reasons.
In the letter titled “Time for me to quit”, the former PDP Chairman, noted that PDP thrived under his watch, and thanked all those who supported him to succeed.
It read in part:”I hereby convey to you my decision to quit my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (POP) with effect from june 12, 2034.
“The decision to make my exit from PDP, is for personal reasons, was not taken whimsically. I chose thus path after very deep consideration and reflections on the trajectory of my political life. The time has really come for me to chart a new course. I thank my family, close friends and political allies for supporting my decision in this regard.
” I am grateful for the honour of piloting the affairs of the Abia State chapter of the party for five years. | am really happy I served without a whiff of any scandal instead, the period under my watch brought to the party uncommon stability, peace and winning streak.
” The party won two governorship elections. back to beck, controlled the State House of Assembly and won all the seats in the National Assembly in two general elections.
” I thank you immensely for galvanizing home support for me all through my membership of the party.”
On his next political destination, Senator Nwaka who was among the founding members of PDP, said it was not in his nature to be jumping from one party to another, adding that if it became expedient, he would not hesitate to make same public.
He said: “Politics for me, is about service to the public. One doesn’t have to be involved in partisan political activities to render service to his people.
“However, if in the future it becomes necessary for me to align with any partisan political platform, I shall not hesitate to share the news with the press.
“As you all know, it is not in my nature to hop from one political party to another. I’ve been with PDP since it was formed over 24 years ago. I’ve now firmly resolved, for entirely personal reasons, to pull back and take stock.
“I thought I could go quietly just the way I joined the party, but with invitations to PDP activities, which I’ve been declining politely and proddings from my allies to declare my stand, I decided to make known my resignation which took place long before now.”
PDP was the ruling party in Abia State for close to 20 years until 2023 when it lost to the ruling Labour Party
