Despite the press conference held by seven other aspirants running for the office of the Abia State Governor under the Peoples Democratic Party, the party primaries have been held and a winner has emerged.

In the contest which held at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Professor Uchenna Isaac Ikonne polled 468 to emerge the flag bearer for the party.
