Campaign director of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Alaboso Joejim, has endorsed the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi for Saturday’s presidential election. In an online interview, he said he has implicit confidence in Peter Obi fixing the economy of Nigeria.
Below is excerpts of the short interview
From the trend of political events in Nigeria, what do you say about the obidient movement?
From what I have witnessed thus far, the phenomenon of the Obidient movement has become a major threat to the political establishment in our country. Never in the political history of Nigeria have we witnessed the silent revolution going on in political space in Nigeria, where Nigerians are clamouring for a generational leadership change in our country and it is only Peter Obi, who seems to be addressing the issues of concern to aspirations of Nigerians.
Do you see Peter Obi winning the election on Saturday?
The crisis in APC is self-evident that they have lost touch with the reality of the pain and suffering of Nigerians. It shows we deserve a better alternative.
We have all seen how Kaduna state Governor, El Rufai led the attack on his own APC president, followed by Kano state governor, Ganduje’s berating the president of his own party, that Buhari has not achieved anything for eight years and he the president wants to destroy the party that brought him to power.
What all this shows is that APC is already imploding because I really don’t think that they have any realistic chance to win this Saturday’s election.
How do you describe the crisis within the APC family and how do you think it will affect the chances of the ruling party?
The People’s Democratic Party does not have any realistic chance to do better, mainly because of the disunity among them because of the intransigence of the party leaders to bring all aggrieved members under their umbrella forgetting that the dynamics of the state of play have changed and without unity, it will be impossible for PDP to win this Saturday’s election.
What about PDP? Do you see it having a chance at winning the presidency?
Peter Obi’s victory on Saturday will usher in a team of competent team of administrators who have the capability to put Nigeria in the right path to transform the country.
What future do you think Nigeria has if Peter Obi wins the election?
It is the responsibility of Nigerians to elect the right candidate in the upcoming presidential election. We, as a people and particularly the youth in Nigeria, have endured untold hardship under this APC-led administration.
It is, however, problematic that some Nigerians refuse to see the danger in voting for the presidential candidates of the two main political parties with questionable backgrounds, running for the highest office in our nation.
APC’s presidential candidate, whose educational qualifications and age are inconsistent with all his official records with various institutions and believed it is his turn to rule us and therefore refused to attend any debate to tell us why he should be elected and on the other hand the PDP’s presidential candidate has a trust issue. He has still not accounted for all the national assets sold under his watch while he was vice president under Olusegun Obasanjo.
Sometimes it takes a while to recognize that someone has a special ability to get us to believe in ourselves, to tie that belief to our highest ideals, and to imagine that together we can do great things.
In those rare moments, when such a person comes along, we need to put aside our plans and reach for what we know is possible.
With the Peter Obi and Baba-Ahmed team, I have no doubt they will restore the soul of our nation. I honestly believe our best days still lie ahead of us.
They will fix Nigeria with what comes, new possibilities with real leaders, because Nigeria desperately needs generational leadership change and Nigeria will be better off than we are right now. Therefore they are my candidate in the upcoming election.
