An alleged impeachment move to remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara, the executive governor of Rivers State has been exposed in just over 100 days of his mounting the saddle.
Signatures of the State House Of Assembly members are being collected to fastrack the impeachment of the governor.
Meanwhile, some members are demanding lump sums, fancy cars to stop the impeachment.
Though no reason has been given for the impeachment moves, sources say it may not be unconnected with the Minister of the FCT- Ezenwo Nyesom Wike in his quest for perpetual control of the state affairs where he once held sway as governor.
The loyalty of the governor to his predecessor has never been in doubt so why would the plot allegedly being spearheaded by Wike?
You will recall the duo had enjoyed very robust relationship before and after the elections – even in recent times-flagging off a key project- the Port Harcourt dual carriage- way ring road.
The progress and calm atmosphere brought about by Simnalayi Fubara in more than 100 days in office may again be heated up should the impeachment plot go unchecked.
Political analysts say the Rivers people must stand up to it and call off this emperor- like status of past governors no matter their input at a time and allow seamless governance take its course adding that the plot is dead on arrival given Siminalayi modest achievements in the short run as governor and called on the elders of the state to intervene immediately.
Wike had earlier promised not to usurp governance of the state during a church service in his honour.
Calls to the newly appointed commissioner of information, Senibo Joe Johnson to further shed light proved abortive and calls to Wike never sailed through.
Meanwhile, the governor has said he has not committed any impeachable offence while addressing marmoth supporters and the good people of River state who had gone to the House of Assembly complex to protest the impeachment move.
According to him, he will continue to deliver democratic dividends to the people and promised to address the press at the right time.
