The National Assembly has reopened the office of suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central), signaling a possible end to her long-running dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Her office, sealed since her six-month suspension in March over alleged misconduct, was reopened on Tuesday by the Sergeant-at-Arms with support from security agencies. This paves the way for her potential return when the Senate resumes plenary on October 7, 2025.
Sources say Senate leaders agreed that Akpoti-Uduaghan may need to tender an apology before resuming duties. Her suspension, previously declared unconstitutional by a Federal High Court, officially expired in September, but she was repeatedly denied access to the chamber amid legal wrangling.
Her lawyer had recently threatened legal action against the Clerk to the National Assembly for delaying her recall, but the CNA insisted that only the Senate can decide on her reinstatement.
The development suggests the chamber is preparing to reintegrate the embattled senator after months of legal and political standoff.
