Senator Dino Melaye has lost his bid to return to the Red Chamber, Emerald News has learnt.
Melaye lost to House of Reps member and political rival, Tajudeen Yusuf. The controversial Kogi politician was only able to poll 99 votes against TJ Yusuf who got about 160 votes.
Information made available to this paper revealed that Yusuf, a 3-term House of Reps member was level with Dino at 88 votes each as at Monday night leading to a run-off.
Things took a bad turn for Melaye on Tuesday when the camp of the Ex-governor, Ibrahim Idris, who was backing Sam Aro, who polled 72 votes in the primaries, gave their block support to Yusuf in the run-off elections.
Furthermore, Yusuf is said to be backed by Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, and Melaye was being supported by Ex-Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.
