The Canadian government has outlined six key conditions that Nigerians and other foreign nationals must meet before they can qualify for a visitor visa.
According to Canada’s immigration guidelines, applicants must have a valid passport or travel document, be in good health, have no criminal or immigration-related convictions, demonstrate strong ties to their home country, convince immigration officers they will leave Canada at the end of their authorised stay, and show they have enough money to cover their visit.
Immigration officials said applicants may also be required to undergo a medical examination or provide a letter of invitation from someone living in Canada, depending on their individual circumstances.
The government explained that strong ties, such as employment, family, property ownership or financial commitments, help demonstrate that an applicant intends to return home after visiting Canada.
Officials also stressed that having sufficient funds is an important part of the assessment, with the amount required depending on the length of the visit and whether the applicant will stay in a hotel or with relatives or friends.
Canada’s visitor visa, also known as a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), allows eligible foreign nationals to enter the country for tourism, family visits, business activities and other short-term purposes, subject to approval by immigration authorities.
