The Committee for the Defense of Human Rights (CDHR) has extended warm Eid-el-Fitr greetings to Muslim faithful in Nigeria and across the world, calling for renewed dedication to peace, unity, and the protection of fundamental human rights.
In a press statement signed by its National President, Dr. Kehinde Prince Taiga, the organization congratulated Muslims on the successful completion of the holy month of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr, describing the period as one of spiritual renewal and moral reflection.
According to the group, Eid-el-Fitr symbolizes self-discipline, sacrifice, compassion, and a deep commitment to justice and peaceful coexistence.
It noted that the lessons of Ramadan, patience, humility, generosity, and respect for the rule of law, are critical virtues needed to address Nigeria’s socio-economic and security challenges.
The CDHR urged Nigerians, regardless of religious, ethnic, or political affiliations, to sustain the values demonstrated during Ramadan beyond the festive season.
It emphasized that tolerance, love for one another, and respect for the dignity of human life are essential foundations for national stability.
At what it described as a critical moment in the nation’s history, the organization called on both citizens and government at all levels to prioritize the restoration and protection of fundamental human rights as guaranteed under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999.
It also referenced Nigeria’s obligations under international human rights instruments to which the country is a signatory.
The rights group further appealed to security agencies to maintain professionalism, accountability, and respect for human dignity in the discharge of their duties, particularly during and after the festive period.
It stressed that the sanctity of human life must remain paramount.
Reiterating its long-standing position, the CDHR stated that peace, unity, and justice are indispensable pillars for national development.
It warned that sustainable progress cannot be achieved without adherence to human rights and the rule of law.
The organization encouraged Nigerians to celebrate responsibly, promote peaceful coexistence, shun violence, and work collectively towards building a just, equitable, and inclusive society.
“Once again, we wish all Muslim faithful a joyful, peaceful, and fulfilling Eid-el-Fitr celebration. Eid Mubarak,” the statement read.
