A delegation of the Center for Peace and Environmental Justice, CEPEJ on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, paid a familiarization visit on the Delta State Police Commissioner, CP Ali Muhammed Ari at the Headquarters of the Delta State Police Command, in Asaba.

Speaking on behalf of the team, the National Coordinator, Chairman, and CEO of CEPEJ, Chief (Comrade) Sheriff Mulade said the visit was for the NGO to welcome and familiarize itself with the Police Commissioner towards collaborating with the State Police Command on peacebuilding and conflict resolution in Delta State.

Comrade Mulade said the main purpose of CEPEJ’s collaboration with the State Police Command and Delta State Govt was to help combat insecurity through sending early warning signals to the Command on perceived crime situations in the State. He added that the NGO was determined to build peace and help to ensure the security of lives and property, and also assist the Police in combating crime in Delta State.

Earlier, the Chairman of CEPEJ’s Board of Trustees, Dr. (Chief) Godwin Orhadawhe said CEPEJ is a notable civil society organization in Nigeria with a Pan African mandate to advocate for human rights and environmental justice, with a view to fostering peace towards achieving sustainable development in Africa.

Dr. Orhadahwe added that CEPEJ was willing and ready to work with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to keep Delta State and other parts of Nigeria safe. He highlighted the role and thematic areas of the NGO which include peacebuilding, conflict resolution, community service, as well as waste management and control to promote healthy living.

In his response, CP Ali Muhammed Ari thanked the CEPEJ delegation for visiting the Delta State Police Command, and promised to collaborate with CEPEJ in mitigating the numerous security challenges bedeviling the State. He commended the NGO for playing a pivotal role in advocating for sustainable peace and development, both of which are inextricably intertwined.

Highlights of the event were the presentation of CEPEJ’s souvenirs such as newsletters, journals, project booklets and calendars to the CP, by Comrade Mulade, as well as a group photograph of CEPEJ officials and the Police Commissioner.

Also on the delegation were CEPEJ’s Corporate Manager Adminstration and Accounts, Mrs. Tina Agidi; the Programmes and Communications Manager, Mr. Tonfawei Daniel; as well as the ICT Manager, Mr. Olasupo Olatoke.
