Following the contraction of coronavirus by Secretary to Delta State Government, Chiedu Ebie, and information commissioner, Charles Aniagwu, the ministry of information and office of the SSG have been summarily shutdown. The report of the contraction of the virus by the two principal officers of the Delta state government came to light on Sunday, June 21, 2020.
Besides shutting down the offices and complex headed by both officers, permanent secretaries in the offices and directors who work closely with them have all been directed to go on self-isolation for a period of 14 days to ascertain their status before resuming back to the offices.
Also, Smart TV, a special television section created by the information commissioner, Charles Aniagwu, when he was chief press secretary to the governor, has, in the same vein, been shut down. The shutting down is to the effect to ascertain the status of the Smart TV staff because they work closely with the information commissioner.
The development has sent panic across members of the state executive council as the two principal officers of the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa are key to the successful implementation of the programmes of the government. They have also been in the frontline in the war against COVID-19 in the state.
Available facts from sources close to the two officers revealed that the staff were sent home on Monday for decontamination of the premises where the officers and their staff are housed. Members of the Smart TV have been asked to go for test to ascertain their COVID-19 status.
Calls put forward to the chief press secretary to the governor, Olisa Ifeajika to confirm the development were not picked and text messages sent to his phone were not replied.
