Senator Ede Dafinone, representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has mourned the death of Chief Mike Adiotomre, describing the late community leader as a distinguished elder statesman, astute politician and respected bridge-builder.
Chief Adiotomre, a native of Ovu-Inland in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, died at the age of 88. In a condolence message, Dafinone described his death as a profound loss to his family, the people of Ovu, Ethiope East, Delta Central and the entire Urhobo Nation.
According to the senator, the deceased had a distinguished public service career spanning the old Bendel State and Delta State, during which he served in various capacities, including as Secretary of the defunct Bendel State Hospitals Management Board.
Dafinone said Adiotomre distinguished himself in the responsibilities entrusted to him through diligence, integrity and commitment to the development and wellbeing of his people.
He also described the late community leader as an astute politician and father figure whose experience and wise counsel were valued by successive generations of political leaders.
The senator noted that Adiotomre was a strong advocate of dialogue and reconciliation and earned respect across political divides through his wisdom and moderation.
He recalled that the late elder also contributed to peacebuilding in the state as a member of the Delta State Advisory and Peace Building Council.
“His death is a profound loss to his family, the people of Ovu, Ethiope East, Delta Central and the entire Urhobo Nation,” Dafinone said.
He extended his condolences to the Adiotomre family, the people of Ovu-Inland and Ethiope East Local Government Area, as well as the wider Urhobo Nation.
Dafinone said the late elder’s long and impactful life should provide consolation to those mourning him, noting that he left behind a legacy of wisdom, leadership and commitment to his people.
He prayed that God would grant the deceased eternal rest and give his family, associates and other mourners the strength to bear the loss.
“Urhobo Nation has lost a respected elder and statesman whose contributions to our collective progress and peaceful coexistence will be remembered for generations,” Dafinone said.
