Frowning at the indiscriminate debris around the former Civil Service Commission office in Asaba, which he said was being littered with dirt for a long time, he charged residents to take ownership of the environment and desist from the act.
The director advised that they aquire refuse bag so as to properly dispose their waste and when filled they can take them to the government approved dumpsites.
He added that sensitization on cleanliness had been done prior to the time and any defaulter would be dealt with accordingly.
He said that Deltans were yet to imbibe the culture of cleanliness.
Expressing delight, one of the residents of the community, Mr. Emma Liwhundebe, said the building which turned out to be a hoodlum site shortly after the occupants left the building, was converted to a dumpsite, which according to him posed much health threat to them as resident of the community.
While commending the state government he said but for the intervention of the state governor, an epidemic would have broken out following the huge dirt in the illegal dumpsite.
Another visit to an illegal refuse dump site at Chiagoziam street, was an eyesore as scavengers barrows were spotted waiting to pickup plastics and irons and in the process of sorting for these items litter the environment with dirts.
Another observation was the burning of waste at some illegal dumpsite visited, which was said to cause health hazard as a result of excess carbon emission.
However, it was noted during another visit to ogbeogonogo market, that there were some level of compliance to the cleanup directive, as some of the stores had waste basket for the disposal of the refuse.
