The First Lady of Delta State, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, on Thursday officially commissioned the newly completed Issele-Uku Modern Market in Aniocha North Local Government Area, describing it as a milestone in community development and economic empowerment.
At the event, Deaconess Oborevwori expressed her delight over the transformation witnessed in the area and the potential of the new market to enhance livelihoods.
“My heart is filled with joy seeing all that this local government has accomplished. This is a sign of meaningful progress, and I am proud to be part of this achievement,” she said.
She praised the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Bazim Chinye, for his vision and dedication to improving the lives of his constituents.
“Building this market shows your genuine concern for the well-being of your people. I believe it will provide great relief for both traders and customers. This is how development starts—at the grassroots—and it will undoubtedly lead to prosperity,” she added.
The First Lady emphasized the alignment of the project with the Oborevwori administration’s MORE Agenda, which focuses on Meaningful development, Opportunities for all, Realistic reforms, and Enhanced peace and security.
“Aniocha North has now joined the league of areas benefiting from the MORE Agenda. I encourage everyone to continue supporting the Governor’s vision and rest assured, more benefits are coming.”
She congratulated the traders who will operate in the new market and urged them to maintain the facility with proper hygiene and care.
In his remarks, Hon. Chinye revealed that the market was a campaign promise now fulfilled, underscoring its significance in the administration’s development plan.
“The groundbreaking took place on November 7, 2024, and six months later, here we are inaugurating a fully completed, people-focused project,” he said.
The Chairman also stressed that the project was fully funded by the local government and guided by principles of affordability and fairness.
“We ensured that stall allocations were equitable and rents affordable. This is not just a project for Issele-Uku—it serves all of Aniocha North,” he added.
Key features of the new market include 141 lockup shops, 575 open stalls, a large warehouse, an abattoir housing 44 meat sellers, a mini bank service center, a section for tomato and pepper grinders, 16 toilet facilities, an administrative block, an omu office, and three vehicle garages.
Chinye expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his leadership, which he said continues to drive meaningful development at the grassroots.
Following the market commissioning, Deaconess Oborevwori also inaugurated the Onicha-Uku Town Hall. The event featured cultural performances, traditional dances, and a goodwill message from the President-General of the Issele-Uku Development Union.
