Delta state governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the March 18 guber poll, Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi on Wednesday said that his lawyers have filed a suit challenging the outcome of the gubernatorial election held in Delta state.
The SDP candidate, who spoke on phone with reporters, said he was dissatisfied with the process leading to the outcome of the election, hence his team of legal luminaries have approached the court with issues regarding the conduct of the polls on Saturday, March 18, 2023.
Gbagi, who had earlier rejected the results of the election in a statement he personally signed, described the outcome as the worse in the history of Delta state, since it was created in 1991.
In the statement he issued on Tuesday, he said he would seek redress in court to challenge the election where the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would prove the authenticity of the results.
He faulted the conduct of the election, saying that the fraud and manipulation experienced in the election were unprecedented.
While thanking his supporters across Delta state for the show of love, he called on them to be law abiding while “we go back to the only last hope of the common man which of course is the judiciary”.
Part of the statement read: “The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Delta state chapter, Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi, has rejected the entire governorship election result as declared by INEC.
“It is definite that the governorship candidate of the SDP will seek redress appropriately in line with laid down rules.
“It is a shame that the collective will and aspiration of Deltans in the first instance and Nigerians in general has been thwarted but hope is alive.
“I ask all my supporters across Delta state and the world to be law abiding while we go back to the only last hope of the common man which of course is the judiciary.”
