The National Vice Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in charge of South-south, Fred Owotorufa and Chief Gabriel Ibede acting Secretary of the party in Delta State, have debunked reports making the rounds that the party has collapsed its structure in Warri south local government area with the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
They described the report as false and without any foundation, adding that the party would take solid stand to contest and win the coming Saturday election in the state.
A press statement on Thursday March 16, 2023, the SDP National Vice Chairman and the Delta State scribe said the party would not collapse structure for any political party neither support the PDP candidate, Sheriff Oborevwori, who is less qualified than its gubernatorial candidate, Olorogun Barrister Kenneth Gbagi, a former minister of state for education in the Saturday governorship election.
While calling on party members and supporters to disregard the baseless and unfounded story orchestrated by the PDP, they said Mabiaku Ogbe, who was a former chairman of the party in the LGA, has since left the party.
Said they: “The attention of our great Party, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has been drawn to a misleading and false news now trending in the social media.
“The spurious news is to the effect that one Mabiaku Ogbe who was a former Chairman of Warri south local government Chapter of our party purportedly led some unknown persons and had collapsed the structure of the party in the LGA with that of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), and declared support for their governorship candidate.
“We hereby state emphatically, for the avoidance of doubt, that the story is false and without any foundation.
“For the records, Mabiaku Ogbe had since left our party and cannot therefore make any statement for or on behalf of the SDP.
“The structure of SDP in Warri South LGA is intact and remains unshakable.
“The public is therefore advised to disregard the so-called press announcement with the contempt it deserves”.
