Delta hawk, the latest security outfit established by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has come under heavy criticism following the failure of the officers to combat criminal activities in the state.
It was believed that the establishment of the Delta hawk will aid other security agencies like the police, who are the frontline fighters against criminals in the state
But since the establishment of the squad December 10, 2020, it has not recorded a significant impact in the fight against crime in Delta state. This is fueling calls by Deltans for a re-examination of the need for the outfit.
They are rather only seen driving their Hilux in the city centre at the detriment of the rural communities where most crimes are committed.
The successful bank robbery on Tuesday at Issele Uku, the administrative headquarters of Aniocha North local government area of Delta state has revealed the near failure of the Delta hawk n the state
Many people who reacted to the attack and destruction are of the view that Delta hawk has not lived up to its billings in the state.
One Ifeanyi Merahsam said Delta hawk is only seen in Asaba but not present in other communities in the state.
One Ambassador Eugene said the robbers hasd left one hour before police arrived the scene. He added that the man killed is the husband of his sister and that the family was in tears as at when he commented on the Facebook page.
Ifesindi Emeka Augustine is angry with all the security agencies in the state. He said surviving in present day Nigeria is a war on its own.
Obi Ekenam Godwin said the security agencies we have these days are after the youths to extort money and forget to carry out their duty.
But Ifesindi Emeka added another dimension. He said most of the security personnel are hired out to private individuals at the detriment of the masses of Nigerians.
He said such actions expose other Nigerians who are greatly in the majority to attacks by deadly hoodlums. He said restructuring could have solved the problem in Nigeria
