The Mayor of Urhoboland who is also a respectable ex-militant leader, His Excellency Eshanakpe Israel a.k.a Akpodoro, has congratulated the winner of Ughelli South local government election, Lucky Avweromre, describing his victory as the hands of God in the affairs of the “good people of Ughelli South.

Akpodoro stated that the overwhelming victory of Avweromre is an act of providence.

Akpodoro’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement signed and issued by his media aide, Austin Oyibode in his Ughelli Mayoral Palace shortly after the declaration of the winners of the keenly contested election.

Delta state electorates had filed on Saturday, July 13, 2024 to elect local government chairmen and councillors to steer the affairs of the councils in the next three years.

Mayor Akpodoro commended the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC for what he described as an excellent job describing the process as free, fair, credible and above all peaceful across the state.

He described the newly elected chairman as a visionary leader who has the wherewithal to grow and develop Ughelli South Local Government Area.

He called on him to promote those ideals capable of pulling the agrarian communities in his domain from the woods of poverty and backwardness to justify the confidence and trust reposed in him by his constituents who he said defied all odds to vote him to lead the council area.

He admonished the newly elected chairman to be magnanimous in victory and see the entire Ughelli South political landscape as his domain including the people as his constituents who deserve his best at all times, saying across party lines, the people want him to succeeded bring the dividend of democracy home.

The Mayor who doubles as the National President of the Urhobo Youth Forum for Change, UYFC specifically called on the Chairman to consider bringing the youths on board in his administration to enable him tackle head-on the need of the people accurately adopting the need assessment approach by working with youths.

According to Mayor Akpodoro, with the latest development as it concerns the recent declaration by the Supreme Court which gave financial autonomy to the local government, the Mayor noted that the third tier administration would be able to bring development to bear upon the people in the grassroot.

He advised the new council boss to harness the positives of the apex court declaration to the advantage of the area and to ensure he maintains a good working relationship with the legislative arm of his government by leading from the front.

Also congratulated by the Mayor was the State Governor, Right(Hon.) Sheriff Oborevwori who he commended for organising the most successful local government election in the history of the state.

He added that the transparency of the Saturday’s exercise points to the administrative acumen of the governor.

He added that the peaceful disposition of voters was borne out of the orientation, reorientation, education and sensitisation campaigns of the government in the state.

Additionally, the Mayor congratulated the people of Ughelli South in particular and Deltans in general for exercising their civic right to choose their leaders as the level they did assuring that their efforts shall never be in vain as he cast a vote of confidence on the newly elected chairmen across the state.

“I call on the people particularly the youths to support Hon. Avweromre who today became the chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Area.

“Without the support of the people success would be difficult to achieve because he can not do it alone, he needs our support and prayers and same goes for all Delta State electorates who elected their council leaders today”, the Mayor of Urhoboland maintained.
